Hello from Florida!

I purchased my 1st 3D printer back, an Ender 3 Pro, in 2018 and had nothing but problems.  I mostly over time used it less and less.  I ended up renewing my interest and picked up a Prusa XL.  After getting back into the hobby with that printer I picked up a Bambu A1 for my son this past christmas.  After all that I started getting tired of the Ender 3 staring at me from a storage closet so after looking at potential upgrades I decided to pick up a conversion kit from Siboor with a Knomi 2.  I also picked up the ERCF v2 kit as well, but won't be tackling that until I've finished this conversion (including all the planned upgrades in this post).

I found this space while researching stuff for my Enderwire conversion.  I'm knee deep in the conversion now and couldn't help but already start planning upgrades 😆  On my Ender I was using the SKR Mini 1.1, so I was planning to drop in a new SKR Mini e3 v3...or should I pick something different? Since I have to buy a new board there are a ton of options all within the same price point of the SKR Mini.  I also already have a rPi 4 B that I will be using for this build.  So far I have decided on the below parts and came here looking for opinions or other recommendations before I start pulling the trigger on purchases.

Orbiter 2.5 Extruder

Dragon Ace Volcano HE

Cartographer Probe w/CNC mount

3DO Nozzle Cam

After doing all of this research I know this is more than likely overkill for an Enderwire, but I'm mostly building a hotend for my future full size Voron as knowing me that's where I'll end up within another year or so.  For now I'm deciding to use USB for set up ease as this being my first real open source build I want to eliminate as many points of failure as possible as I learn the ins and outs of klipper and everything else.  With that being said I'm also trying to decide on a toolhead board.  I was all set on the NiteHawk 36 as it has been around long enough to see some impactful HW revisions.  I was also leaning towards the SB2209 USB variant, but have been reading about those having issues.  At the end of the day I just want one cable coming from the electronics and to do away with drag chains so going USB will allow me to do that since that's the only real option with a nozzle cam.  I also need to make sure the upgrades I'm making will also play nice with the ERCF v2.  Any suggestions/feedback is welcomed.  I've been reading stuff on here non-stop during the past couple days and can't wait to buy this next round of parts & get this thing finished!  Thanks for reading my novel!

Welcome to the forum - happy to have you aboard. Good luck with the project.

Thanks!  I have read a lot of your posts on different mods/tool heads.  I must admit you have me second guessing some of my choices & is why I actually became a member and wrote this post 😅

Going thru your choices, I would...

Keep the Orbiter 2.5 and add the Orbiter Filament Sensor and also the Orbitool Toolhead PCB. You can see how I implemented mine below. There are details, STL and Fusion 360 files in the link. Click the arrow in the black box to go right to the section with the toolhead, clicking the main txt will take you to the beginning of the thread so, maybe skim over the entire build, you might find some cool stuff to add to your build. I encourage everyone to use whatever I have in there.

Cartographer Probe...

I mean I wouldn't get one based on the amount of frustration a number of people on this forum have experienced. It's possible that the issues have been resolved but there are other choices where people have had zero issues and why I recommend that you go with a Beacon Rev H Probe. I have 3 printers (soon to be 4) running Beacon Probes, all with zero issues. Yes, it costs more and... Yes, you really do get what you pay for in this instance. Stick with a Beacon, you'll thank me later. p.s. I believe the same CNC mount works for both.

Dragon Ace Volcano HE...

A couple years ago the Dragon HF hotend was very popular. I ran a Dragon HF on my 1st Voron build. It was a good hotend but myself and others had heat creep issues where the melt would creep up into the cold side and cause clogging. Most people felt that the design of the cold side heat sink was to blame. Now it appears that Triangle Lab has re-used the old Dragon cold-end and added a new Bambu style heater and thermistor. I don't know if I would go with that hotend. Two of the most consistent and stable hotends are the Revo Voron and the Rapido. Of my 4 printers, I have Rapido's on 3 of them and the Goliath hotend I have on my VzBot 330 AWD. If it were me... I would spend the extra $20 to get a Rapido 2+. Amazon.com: Phaetus Rapido Plus Hotend 2 HF V2.0 1.75mm Blue PT1000_B 350°C : Industrial & Scientific I like the Rapido over the Revo for two reasons... Rapido is higher flow and the Rapido uses V6 nozzles where the Revo nozzles are considerably more with less variety.

As for the nozzle cam... That sounds like something really cool to add and something I might implement in the future. I look forward to seeing how you implement that one.

So...

Welcome to the forum, I think you'll like it here.

Hey... Where are you in Florida... I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale although I've called Austin TX my home for the past 16 years.
