I should really stop trying to multitask

What's the fun in that?

Now that's not a bad idea. But multitask with a beer 🙂

It uses a RP2040 chip thus pin names are "GPIO" nominated not "P"

 Example: sht36:gpio21 instead of the v2 sht36:PA2

Good to know, the moment I read that it clicked, and I had an Ah Ha! moment.

An interesting problem.

When I buzz stepper Y it does this.

All other steppers do the normal smooth back and forth motion.

So far I've:

Checked the 5160 driver power supplies

Swapped out the 5160 (both parts and ribbon cable).

Swapped the mainboard

Swapped the motor

and still have yet to clear the problem.

I connected up a spare stepper motor (TronXY 23) and that does someting different. It only moves in one direction.

The .cfg has not been changed from a known working config.

The only thing that I haven't changed is the Pi, but I can't see how that can be the problem.

Any suggestions good people?

An interesting problem indeed.

What did the other motor do? I assume you just had a motor on the table, connected to the controller. It would be interesting to connect test motors to both the Y and Y1 drivers and attach a tape flag to the shafts and see if they both move in sync.

I'm thinking maybe they are not sync'd and thus the noise.

...and I just thought of something... do you think maybe the grub screw loosened? The Super Power LDO motors do not have a flat machined on the shaft so, you may have had a pully slip on ya.

Might be worth checking.

Yes I had the other motor on the table. The other motor incremented in one direction, i.e. it went forward by 1 mm but did not travel back 1 mm. Buzzing Y1 gives a normal result - forward and back by 1mm with the appropriate sound.

I too thought about sync problems, it sounds very much like the motor is fighting against another motor. So I loosened off the grub screws on Y to allow it to rotate without driving the belts. It still does the same noisy ´movement.

Did you try a new good stepper motor cable when you tested?

I assume you did but at this point it looks like you've swapped out everything except the printer frame.

At this point you might want to try reflashing your controller. Crazy but hey... try everything right?

I made up a new cable.

I think a reflash is required as it is now saying that beacon is not a valid config section!

There's only 3 things to do, either:

1. Reflash

2. Swap out the BTT Pi2 for a real Pi4

3. Put my old Manta M8P/CB1 in!

Swapping out the Pi didn't change anything.

Now klipper won't start because it doesn't like the beacon section in the printer.cfg.

What I'm going to do now is revert back to the original setup (without beacon).

If that then still gives me the same problem with stepper Y I'll fit my old M8P/CB1.

I'm still fettling with this.

I've swapped out the board for a Super 8 v1.3, and promptly let put the magic smoke out!

So, as a last resort I've put an old Manta M8P/CB1/ in along with the UTOC. So far so good, I'm just trying to nail the can setup. I've got the UUID of the SHT36, but now the /dev/serial directory has disappeared.

The next step is try configuring the M8P in CAN Bridge mode - the problem is - the sun's shining,  it's +14c and it's Friday afternoon....

Yup, I just bought a new ride a week ago and I'm itching to go on a nice long drive...

It's 23c and sunny here and she is calling me.

Zoom Zoom! Mazdas are great. My sister got a CX-30 about a year ago and loves it. The 20-year old 3 got passed to my niece and is still running strong.

Yup, I'm kind of a Mazda fan. I traded my 2019, fwd, non-turbo CX-5 for a 2023 CX-50 Premium Plus AWD Turbo with 20K miles. The difference was ~13K so not too bad of a deal.

I originally selected the CX-5 because it was a cost-effective little SUV to drag a motorcycle behind and Mazda was the only one offering a 6-speed dual clutch transmission the only thing that disappointed me was that the engine felt a bit overworked towing a trailer.

I'm really liking the CX-50 so far. 0-60 in 6.6 seconds isn't bad and the towing capacity goes from 2000 lbs for the CX-5 to 3500 for the CX-50. Plus, updated infotainment and some really nice quality of life upgrades like folding mirrors and a/c blowing thru the front seats.

So, time will tell how the new CX-50 holds up long term.

Yeah, a game changer.

The AWD is not bad either. I don't want to ruin @TitusADuxass post any more than I already have but...

No worries from my side.

I've always liked the styling of the new Mazda.

I did have one once, a Mazda 323f, my first car - I bought it in a car park. Drove it 50 metres and the left outer sill (rocker) fell off. It was a really old beast though.

I liked the early 90's Mazda Styling. If I were to restore a two-seater... The 3rd gen (FD) RX7 would be high on the list. I used to love the styling of that car. The styling from 2000-2010 I didn't care for too much. The front fenders on the 2010 RX8 were ugly IMO.

Now the new styling... from 2017 on... Yeah, I like it. Especially the cutouts right above the headlights and the bumper. Looks cool IMO.

I am very much a Mazda fan. I sort of owned one: a Ford Probe GT. It's basically a reskinned slightly more performance-focused version of the MX-6. Great car and I was sad when I had to let it go (~200k miles and no more part support even from Mazda :classic_sad:). I remember a nice hot rod was the little MX-3 with the Japanese market V6 (KL-ZE) crammed in it.

I wanted a 3rd gen RX-7 in the worst way. I'd still love one if budget and space would allow.

That was a pretty cool rabbit hole to go down. I never knew about that model.

Here's a link that I think is what you're referring to. MX-3 Also interesting how anemic and slow cars were in the mid 90's. 0-60 in a blistering 8.4 seconds and here my SUV is doing 6.6 but, cars were pretty pokey back then.

Quote

PERFORMANCE

The V6 MX-3 had a top speed of approximately 212 km/h (132 mph). The MX-3 GS could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.4 seconds, and could travel a quarter mile in 16.4 seconds. With a turning rate of 0.89 g (8.7 m/s²), its handling capabilities were one of the best in its class.

The MX-5 Miata is yet another legend that's so popular they have their own race class and overall, you just can't kill those little cars.

The new MX-5 hard top convertibles are super nice, if only they would bolt a turbo on it. I mean it's the same Skyactive G 2.5L four banger in every other Mazda... Why no Turbo?

Miatas are great cars. A friend had one and let me autocross it a couple of times--total blast. MX-5 Cup races are nuts--especially Daytona 🤪 Here's another fun rabbit hole: Monster Miata. Classic hot rodding: take a little car (the Miata) and cram a massive, powerful engine in it (originally a Ford small block--now even an LS). My brother in law said he once got to drive one and they are scary nuts.

I briefly considered a KL-ZE swap for me Probe but the original engine never had an issue, so I really couldn't justify it (that and it was my daily driver...so nope).
