Milo V1.5 CNC Bench Mill - Water Cooled - Casa Enclosure

PFarm

Recommended Posts

I got the coolant pump, flow/temp gauge and the LED light connected. I used a fan circuit configured for 12v. and programmed it in the software. It's time to build a workbench to fit the Milo and Casa Enclosure and move the Milo into the workshop. Wire 220V and install the electrical enclosure to house the 36V. and other components in the future.

@Penatr8tor I know this is pretty simple but it's a step forward for me, created my first part in Fusion. It's a spacer to mount the LED housing so I can mount the assembly securely. You got to start somewhere right? I really need to learn Fusion if I'm going to build any parts with this mill.

Yup and you know what... a complex part is just a combination of simple features. Just keep modelling. 🙂👍

...and there's not really any repositories for CNC machined stuff like Thingiverse and Printables, you pretty much have to design you own stuff. I would bet that there might be some clamps or other workpiece holding things you could machine for the Milo to get ya started.

Hit me up when... I mean IF you get stuck. 😆

Thanks for the encouragement, I've gone from a simple spacer.

To something with a little more detail.

I ordered this fly cutter, hoping the bigger spindle (2.2kw/3HP) would have enough torque to drive this cutter for surfacing on the smallest setting 1.25"/31.75mm. I guess I'll find out when I get the Mill cutting aluminum.

Let me start by saying I was ecstatic when I found this Canadian site diycnc.ca that offered both CNC parts and 3D Printing parts. This site indicates that they have a warehouse in Toronto and Vancouver. This is misleading they have you thinking that you're ordering from a Canadian supplier but the reality is there is just a middle company between you and China. I try to purchase locally from Canadian manufacturers or suppliers when I can. If I wanted to purchase from China I would have done so directly. They have a larger selection of items and I know you can't stock everything on their site but when you order 2020 extrusion and it is delivered from China I could have done that on Aliexpress. I was promised a shipping update when I inquired about the status of my order (10 business days to cut 5 pieces of extrusion?) but never received one. Only when I viewed my order status in my account that a tracking number show up with no description of who the courier is other than "our shipping partner". So anyone in Canada who is considering dealing with this site be aware that it is misleading.

@PFarm It's like it's become OK or common place these days to just flat out lie. Or maybe it's always been like that and it's just my perception of the world at any given time, but I hear ya... I hate that kind of business tactic.

A few times in my career we've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with vendors that lied about their capabilities just to land the contract and once we were locked in and the schedule got tight... they would use that position to squeeze more funds out of us just so we could get our parts on time.

Sad reality of the world...

Good that you're alerting people.

2020 x 1200mm has arrived, it was my first time purchasing from the Temu site. It was delivery via air/ground took 10 days to arrive. The outer package was cardboard.

The extrusion was bundled together and wrapped in heavy plastic.

A plastic covering also protects the 2020 individually. Next is to cut, drill, and tap the 2020. There is enough in this shipment to build the outer frame. The second order of 2020 x 1000mm will be to build the door assembly and a Clicky Clack style door for the electronic bay. A slight modification to the outer frame eliminates the two-piece assembly by replacing the "C" 580mm extrusions and the "H" 420mm extrusions with 1000mm pieces.

A little hiccup regarding the Temu extrusion  I missed the "European Standard" description. The difference is the center hole is for an M6 tap, not an M5. Not a big deal I do have an M6 tap but don't have any M6 button screws those have been ordered. All pieces for the outer frame have been cut and tapped. Tomorrow, drilling the blind holes in the extrusions.

As much grief as people like to give Temu, as long as you know what you're getting it isn't bad. My wife likes to get little tchotchkes from them, usually for things like little gift bags. I've gotten some hobby supplies that were mostly perfectly fine. I'm not getting electronics from them though.

The European standard was my fault for not fully understanding what I was purchasing because the listing mentioned it. I hear you on electronics though!

Which hobby are you into?

Well...I often say my primary hobby is collecting hobbies. 😆 In this case from Temu, supplies for landscaping for miniatures wargaming. I fell back into that rabbit hole this past year after being away for decades. This printer hobby supports that one; it's actually a tangent from my initial excuse for getting into 3d printing--that being making organizers & custom bits for board gaming.

@mvdveer as you mentioned in your build this thing is HUGE!

I got the frame completed, I'm out of M3 spring T nuts and M3 x 10 screws so need to get those coming. Two spools of ABS for the basement parts are on their way.

I measured the electronic bay from the CAD file in Fusion 360 the issue I'm running into is with the passthrough installed the switch cover doesn't fit.

IMG_2506.thumb.JPG.9a017373e45f2e197ccb759a189a46b2.JPG

With it removed the switch cover fits. I have two workarounds notching the switch cover inside the mounting bracket or installing the passthrough on the the bottom side of the electronic bay. I'm guessing I took the wrong measurement for the E bay in Fusion 360.

Update: I double-checked the Fusion dimension and I screwed up that dimension!
